United Kingdom car sale report 2010

Report by RTT News ,UK car registrations increased by 1.8% in 2010, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders. But the market is forecast to decline 5% in 2011 to 1.93 million units as difficult market conditions continue, the report showed Friday.

In December 2010, registrations fell 18% to 123,817 units. If scrappage volumes were removed completely from the 2009 December tally, then the 2010 December figure would have been up almost 6,000 units or 4.8%, SMMT noted.

“UK motor manufacturing recovered particularly well in 2010 and the outlook is for further steady growth this year,” said SMMT Chief Executive Paul Everitt.

UK automotive market is expected to face a challenging 2011 with sales forecast to fall by 5% over the year. Sales of new cars across the United Kingdom rose above two million units during 2010, marking a notable improvement on the prior year, but industry experts expect the car sales market to remain very challenging.
