In recent years Toyota has become a somewhat boring car maker that makes cars very well, it’s just that they’re not exactly inspiring or exciting. So it looks as if they’re taking the bull by the horns and Toyota’s French-based design studio has produced the FT-86 Concept,

The FT-86 (hachi roku is Japanese for 86) is a small (rear-wheel drive sports coupe which is going to turn up not just as a Toyota but also as a Subaru. It uses the 2.0 Boxer engine 4 cylender found in the Impreza, but by the time it finds its way to market in 2012 – as both a Toyota and a Subaru – it’s likely to get the next generation Boxer lump.
expect dimension will be 4250x1765x1320 (HxLxW)

The low down here is that Toyota and Fuji Heavy Industries-read Subaru-have been working on a joint sports car development project. There has been back-channel chatter about this for  some time and the cooperative effort has materialized in the Toyota FT-86 concept. This Corolla AE86 revival is more Subie than meets the eye. The chassis is common with both brands, and the powerplant looks to be a specially developed boxer four from the Subaru camp. Listed as the C-45, it’s a 2.0-liter offering said to generate 200-250 hp. Like its inspiration, the FT-86 is a rear driver, and runs a 6-speed manual tranmission.  the prices  being thrown about is $20,000.expect the car to hit Showroom in december 2012
