Kia would debut its all-new 2011 Kia Sportage SUV at next month’s Geneva motor show
Hot on the heels of Hyundai launching its shapely new Tucson, Kia announced today that it would debut its all-new 2011 Kia Sportage SUV at next month’s Geneva motor show.
The face of the 2011 Kia Sportage is becoming familiar; its bold, swept-back look and styling cues compare to those of the recently introduced Kia Forte, Forte Koup, and Kia Soul, as well as in the recently introduced 2010 Kia Sorento, though in the Sportage it’s even more flamboyant, with the lower air dam pinched upward (at least visually) in the middle. From the side, its silhouette looks to be a more abbreviated, aggressive take on the stance and cues of the Sorento. The Sportage has a pronounced shoulder crease that runs from the edge of the headlights all the way to the taillights. “Fresh, bold, athletic and sporty” is how Kia describes the design, with a “commanding driving position and heightened sense of security.”
2011 Kia Sportage specifications and price
We’ve yet to receive any finalized specifications for the new Sportage,(The current Sportage specifications is 171.3 inches long, 70.9 inches wide, and 66.7 inches tall, with a 103.5-inch wheelbase.) but Kia says it is longer, wider, and lower than the outgoing model, and promises more cargo and passenger space inside. Ride quality has reportedly been vastly improved, thanks in part to the stretched wheelbase.
Kia will likely offer the Sorento with a host of gasoline and diesel powerplants in Europe, but we assume powertrain offerings for North American models will likely resemble those offered in the Hyundai Tucson.Under the bonnet there’ll be the existing 2.0-litre petrol and diesel units, but by the time UK sales start in October the Sportage will also have a new 1.7-litre diesel and a 1.6-litre petrol. Six-speed manual and automatic gearboxes will be on offer initially, but a dual-clutch transmission (plus a turbocharged 1.6 petrol) will follow.
Prices should start from around 16,000 uk dollar
but in Us market We wouldn’t be surprised to see the corporate 2.4-liter I-4 placed underhood, mated to either a six-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission.
