Suzuki european production data in 2006-2007-2008

Suzuki’s Hungary car plant will make 300,000 units in 2008 with help from Fiat, Opel
in 2007 the plant made 232,000 cars, up 42 percent from 2006.
The steady production rise is the result of
1. Suzuki’s investment of 100 billion forint (€387 million currently) in the plant since 2003.
2. The automaker’s ability to find the right partners.
Making a Splash
The Splash, Suzuki’s new small minivan, shows the benefits of partnerships. Suzuki plans to make about 60,000 units of the car for itself. And it will build another 60,000 for Opel/Vauxhall. strart of production was in march 2008
“The extra volume for Opel actually gives us the ability to carry out this project,” Hiroshi Tsuda, president of Suzuki Motor, told Automotive News Europe .
“About 100,000 units a year are needed for that model,” Tsuda said. “We have been figuring on potential sales of just 60,000 for ourselves.”
This year, the Esztergom plant will produce the Swift small car, SX4 small SUV and Splash. It will also manufacture a variant of the SX4, the Sedici, for Fiat and a version of the Splash, the Opel/Vauxhall Agila, for General Motors.
More than two-thirds of the plant’s 300,000 units will wear a Suzuki badge.
Esztergom epitomizes Suzuki’s manufacturing philosophy:
1. Invest for clear quality gains.
2. Keep plants flexible for small production runs.
3. Find partners when possible.
A production partner
Suzuki is a specialist in designing and building small cars. Its engineers designed the Splash and Agila on its Swift platform.
“Inside, the mechanicals are the same,” Sandor Nagy, manager of the production-engineering department, told ANE. Outside, the cars have different back hatches, hoods, headlights, and front corner panels.
The Splash and Agila are welded on the same line. Nearby, the Suzuki SX4 and Fiat Sedici share a second welding line. Only the Suzuki Swift has a stand-alone line.
Despite the model diversity, cars flow onto a single assembly line from three body shops. Suzuki has a financial logic to the production layout.

“If there were three production lines, the required investment would be huge. And sales of some of these models are not so large,” said Magyar Suzuki Managing Director Isao Ozawa.
